Spirit of Ohana Family Land Mission Statement

It is the Kuleana (responsibility) of Spirit of Ohana Land Management To preserve, protect, restore and responsibly develop the family lands handed down from John Kanui Moiha and Charles Kealoha Kanekoa. All descendents of these Kupuna are welcomed and encouraged to take an active role in Spirit of Ohana land Management as their birthright and responsibility.

It is the aim of Spirit of Ohana Land Management to understand and express the unity, intentions and desires of the entire family towards the highest good of the land and its usage for all family members and future generations.

Spirit of Ohana Land Management's job is to find profitable ways to use the land for positive, culturally rich, agricultural, educational, and recreational purposes like building guest hales throughout the family lands so that all family members may easily visit and enjoy the lands.

Monies generated are used to pay land taxes and utilities, pay company employees, manage and upkeep the lands and to fund further restoration and family land procurement projects. Profits beyond this, if any, are distributed equally to all family members.

The goal is to protect the lands from sale, theft, environmental harm and irresponsible development while bringing the family closer together through shared stewardship, and to support any family member who wishes to care for family land.

Spirit of Ohana Family Land Methods

Spirit of Ohana Land Management respects nature as the physical expression of god, and therefore treats all family lands with respect and spiritual reverence.

Spirit of Ohana Land Management strives to be a part of the solution, not a part of the problem in any given situation that may arise regarding family land management, in the spirit of harmony, honesty, clear communication and aloha.

Spirit of Ohana Land Management takes the best of what the modern world has to offer and combine it with the wisdom of our Kupuna to achieve our goals in balance, harmony and environmental sustainability.

Spirit of Ohana acts as the central communications hub and resource center for all things related to family land issues, with web site and mailing list to keep all family members informed of and invited to participate in all company activities.

Spirit of Ohana Long Term Goals

To empower and support the family, the aina and all Hawaiian people.

To reclaim hui lands. To restore water rights where applicable.

To re-create a functioning Ahupuaa (ancient land system) that owes its structure to the integrity of the old Hawaiian way yet incorporates the best technology in sustainable green organic living. To use this Ahupuaa as an example to inspire and guide others towards re-creating more such environments throughout Hawaii.

To use wealth generated to establish private grant and scholarship programs to support native Hawaiians in the area of small business, culture, the arts, working the land, traditional architecture, resource management, etc.

To offer free training seminars to other Hawaiian families teaching the techniques for reclaiming and effectively managing their family lands.
